Protest muffins brought to Gov. Scott's office

More than 300 muffins were dropped off at Gov. Rick Scott’s office Thursday morning in protest of the omission of Independent Party of Florida presidential candidate Evan McMullin from the official 2016 general election ballot in Florida. Supporters of McMullin say voters should have more options than just major party candidates.

Though McMullin has been officially nominated by his party, the state has claimed that the Independent Party of Florida is not recognized by the Federal Election Commission as a “national party.”

Michele Carmichael delivered the 300 muffins — as well as a few McMuffins — to the Capitol.

“We feel like the governor’s refusal to allow the independent party candidate on the ballot disenfranchises thousands of voters in the state that may feel like they want to vote for the candidate of their party,” she said. “Ballots are going out soon, and we’ve been trying to have him allow this candidate and so far we have had no success.”
