A Gadsden County Sheriff’s corrections officer faces criminal charges after it was discovered he was smuggling contraband into the jail.

Nitika Fryson was charged Friday with introducing contraband into a detention facility and was booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Fryson, who worked for GCSO for about two years, was fired.

Gadsden County Sheriff's Office.

GCSO Sgt. Anglie Hightower said the investigation into Fryson started earlier this week with information from a confidential informant.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, Hightower said. A GCSO internal investigation has also been initiated.

Due to the active investigation, Hightower could not elaborate on the type of contraband Fryson is accused of brining into the jail.
