Northwood move shutting down DHSMV services

The state's planned move out of Northwood Centre will shut down some services this weekend.

Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles online services will go offline at 8 p.m. Friday and won't be restored until 8 a.m. on Monday.

DHSMV said the agency's "complicated" hardware technology move from the State Data Center in Northwood to a Southwood location requires the shutdown. DHSMV and the Agency for State Technology have been planning the move and taking steps to minimize risk and impact to customers.

Earlier this year, the state Legislature included language in its budget forbidding rent payments to Northwood Centre because of mold concerns. The move has sparked a flurry of lawsuits by the state, the building's owners and state employees who say they were made sick by the building.

The outage will impact Floridians with expiring driver's licenses and identification cards. The department expects offices to be open Monday, but it won't schedule appointments in its driver's license offices for Monday and Tuesday. That means those with ID cards expected to expire on or before Tuesday should visit an office or renew online at GoRenew.com by 5 p.m. Friday.
