The city of Tallahassee wants residents to answer the question: Where should our tax dollars go?

Tallahasseeans have until the end of May to fill out a satisfaction survey designed to gauge where the public thinks the city should be putting its resources. The survey, which can be found on Talgov.com, asks residents to select specific services and programs that deserve more city investment.

The survey is part of an effort by the city to gather more input from residents as the City Commission and staff begin to build the 2016-17 budget. The city has already hosted one public budget workshop in addition to meeting with community stakeholders. The city has been providing quarterly budget updates to the commission. The third update of the year will be at the July 13 commission meeting.

“It is important that we hear from citizens and understand what they care about most,” said City Manager Rick Fernandez. “This will allow us to better develop a proposed city budget that allocates resources that truly meet the needs of the community.”

Two other workshops are scheduled for May 11 and June 14. Final public budget hearings will be held in September. The concluding budget hearing and vote are scheduled for Sept. 28. The city's fiscal year starts Oct. 1.
