A Florida State University student was found dead Saturday after Calhoun County Sheriff's deputies received a call about a drowning in the Chipola River.

Saud Alajmi, 19, from Kuwait was found by two individuals in 10 feet of water near a bridge just west of the town of Altha before they alerted authorities, according to a release from CCSO.

Sheriff's deputies say the man visited the river with a group of FSU students Saturday. The Chipola River is a popular spot to tube and recreate for college students from Tallahassee.

FSU officials say Alajmi had no major of study or classification but was attending the university's Center for Intensive English Studies where he began in 2013.

Last year, an international FSU post-doctoral associate from India drowned at St. George Island during a day trip with friends there.

Calhoun officials report that the students were recreating on the river and were on scene when emergency officials arrived. The phone call was placed by individuals not in the FSU party.

Deputies, with assistance from several agencies, recovered the man's body by boat.
