The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating the death of a body that was discovered by a passerby in the Lake Ella Plaza near the intersection of Monroe Street and Tharpe Street Friday morning.

TPD spokesman David Northway said the death is being investigated as a natural death.

"There are no outward signs of foul play at this time," Northway said. "But we are waiting on a pending autopsy."

TPD received a call around 10:45 "from a passerby who saw something in the woods they didn't understand," Northway said.

He added that there are several homeless camps in the area, but it was unclear if the individual was homeless.

The age, sex and name of the individual are not being released at this time.
